Bowmore
Bowmore Islay Single Malt Whisky
limited edition Year of the Dragon Packaging
In recent years, Asian markets have emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments for single malt whisky, with many scotch brands continuing to release limited editions during the festive season. For Bowmore, a master craftsman of Islay single malt scotch, authenticity and cultural relevance were key to telling a captivating story that resonated with the audience. Drawing from Chinese folklore, the legend of the carp and the dragon provided the perfect metaphor for Bowmore’s journey to mastery.
Design and Pack Mechanism
The tale, broken into three acts, mirrors Bowmore’s pursuit of mastery: the carp’s struggle up the waterfall, its leap over the Dragon’s Gate, and its final transformation into a dragon. This narrative was woven into the pack mechanism, and the unboxing experience was designed to parallel the three-act story. The pack’s exterior illustrates the carp’s ascent, while the sliding opening mechanism symbolizes the transformation. Inside, the dragon is revealed in its full glory, representing the triumph of the journey and completing the story with a visually stunning finale.
Spring Couplet
An original spring couplet, a form of Chinese poems traditionally hung during the Lunar New Year, was composed and hand-calligraphed to enhance the story. The two lines of the couplet capture the contrasting acts of the carp’s journey and the dragon’s transformation. This couplet also complements the pack's opening mechanism, where the back panels split from the center, mirroring how spring couplets are usually placed on either side of a doorway.
